Concordia Opens Academic Year

CONCORDIA OPENS ACADEMIC YEAR

            Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., starts the 2018-19 academic year with opening convocation at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, in Memorial Auditorium. The convocation officially opens the 128thacademic year.

The procession into Convocation will be similar to the commencement procession. Faculty will gather in the atrium of the Knutson Campus Center then line the sidewalk between the Dovre Campanile and Memorial Auditorium for first-year students to process through. A first-year student will carry the class flag (2022). 

            The program will include: an address by Dr. Peter Haberman, associate professor of music and conductor of The Concordia Band; a greeting by Student Government Association president, Jacob Hanson ’19;and a welcome and declaration of the opening of the academic year by dean of the college and vice president for Academic Affairs, Dr. Eric Eliason. The program also features President William Craft giving a “Call to Engagement”; Jon Leiseth, minister for Faith and Spirituality; and music by The Concordia Band.

            Immediately following convocation, the traditional Beanie Toss will take place on Olin Hill at approximately 10:10 a.m. (Please arrive early in case convocation ends sooner.)

            Concordia College is a four-year liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America offering more than 50 majors, including 15 honors majors and 12 preprofessional programs.
