CONCORDIA OPENS ACADEMIC YEAR

Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., starts the 2019-20 academic year with opening convocation at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 29, in Memorial Auditorium. The convocation officially opens the 129th academic year.

The procession into Convocation will be similar to the commencement procession. Faculty will gather in the atrium of the Knutson Campus Center then line the sidewalk for first-year students to process through. An upper-class student will lead the first-year Convocation procession carrying the 2023 class flag.

The program will include an address by Dr. Joan Kopperud, professor of English; a greeting by Student Government Association president, Sara Villalobos ’20; and a welcome and declaration of the opening of the academic year by dean of the college, Dr. Susan Larson. The program also features President William Craft giving a “Call to Engagement”; the Rev. Dave Adams, campus pastor; and music by The Concordia Band.

Immediately following convocation, the traditional Beanie Toss will take place on Olin Hill at approximately 10:10 a.m. (Please arrive early in case convocation ends sooner.)

Concordia College is a four-year liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America offering more than 50 majors, including 18 honors majors and 12 preprofessional programs.
