HANDS FOR CHANGE AT CONCORDIA
First-year and transfer students at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., will participate in the 29th annual Hands for Change outreach event on Monday, Aug. 23, during New Student Orientation Week. Concordia will travel to five organizations and host several organizations from the Fargo-Moorhead community on campus to participate in 19 different service projects.
Since 1993, the Hands for Change event has introduced students to their new community. Hands for Change instills the importance of service in relation to the college’s mission statement early on in a student’s college career.
Activities will begin with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. at the Paul J. Dovre Campanile (rain site Memorial Auditorium). Orientation Chair Heather Ukaonu will preside at the opening ceremony with remarks by Moorhead Council Member Chuck Hendrickson, Jon Leiseth, minister for faith and spirituality in action, President William Craft and a send-off by Ukaonu.
Students will disperse around campus following the opening ceremony and partake in various service projects from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., and again from 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Shortly after their projects, students will be engaging in conversations and reflection about their service-learning experiences.
