LECTURE ON IMPACT AND OPPORTUNITY OF WASTED FOOD
Author Jonathan Bloom will visit Concordia College to talk about the U.S. food waste crisis. His lecture, "What a Waste: The Impact and Opportunity of Wasted Food," will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, in the Centrum, Knutson Campus Center.
Bloom's lecture will coincide with Concordia's efforts to reduce the food waste by 50% in the dining center, Anderson Commons, by 2020. The national goal for food waste reduction developed by the USDA and EPA is set for 2030.
Bloom is a journalist, consultant and a food waste expert. He blogs (Wasted Food at wastedfood.com) and is the author of “American Wasteland” (De Capo Press 2010). His writing has also appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and Newsweek. Bloom has also worked as a food waste reduction consultant, recently working with United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization, Harvard Law School, the Natural Resources Defense Council and several startups.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
