CONCORDIA PRESENTS THIRD COAST PERCUSSION IN CONCERT

The concert concludes the Day of Percussion events

Concordia’s Cultural Events will present Third Coast Percussion, a Grammy Award-winning, Chicago-based percussion quartet, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9, in Memorial Auditorium. This performance is part of Concordia’s 30th Annual Day of Percussion which begins at 8:30 a.m. also in Memorial.

For 15 years, Third Coast has created exciting and unexpected performances that constantly redefine the classical music experience. The ensemble has been praised for “commandingly elegant” (New York Times) performances, the “rare power” (Washington Post) of their recordings, and “an inspirational sense of fun and curiosity” (Minnesota Star-Tribune).

Third Coast Percussion maintains a busy tour schedule, with past performances in 35 of the 50 states and Washington, D.C., plus international tour dates on four continents. The ensemble has commissioned and premiered more than 60 new works by composers including Philip Glass, Augusta Read Thomas, and Devonté Hynes. The four members met while studying percussion music at Northwestern University (Evanston, Ill.).

Third Coast’s performance and residency is part of Concordia’s annual Day of Percussion events. Visit ConcordiaCollege.edu/CulturalEvents or ConcordiaCollege.edu/DayofPercussion for the day’s full schedule.

Tickets for the evening performance are $20 for adult general admission $10 for students. For tickets, visit ConcordiaTickets.com or call the Office of Cultural Events at 218.299.4366.
