Transfer Campus Visits to be Held at Several
Minnesota Private Colleges Including Concordia College

Concordia College is one of several private nonprofit colleges participating in Transfer Campus Visits days, an effort to help community college students consider their options for transferring and earning their bachelor’s degrees. Transfer Campus Visits will take place Nov. 12 and Feb. 18, dates when community colleges are closed.

Transfer students already account for one in four new students at the 17 private colleges that are part of the Minnesota Private College Council. And half of transfer students come from community colleges.

“Many students at community colleges are eager to continue on and earn a bachelor’s degree. And they often find that private nonprofit colleges are a great fit,” said Paul Cerkvenik, president, Minnesota Private College Council. “We have more than 140 majors available both for traditional students as well as those choosing evening and weekend options.”

Community college students can find out more about the Nov. 12 and Feb. 18 Transfer Campus Visit options at mnprivatecolleges.org/transfer-visits. These events will give community college students a chance to see what it would be like to be a student at a private college. They will also have an opportunity to talk to admission staff – including about how affordable a private college education can be and how their courses will be evaluated for transfer.

Six private colleges have visit options on Nov. 12: Augsburg University, Minneapolis; Bethel University, Arden Hills; Concordia College, Moorhead; Hamline University, St. Paul; St. Catherine University, St. Paul; and University of St. Thomas, St. Paul.

More colleges are expected to participate on Feb. 18. Community college students who are not available on Nov. 12 or Feb. 18 and want to set up a visit on a different day will find resources as well at mnprivatecolleges.org/transfer-visits. While there are many ways that private colleges already reach out to community college students, holding coordinated Transfer Campus Visits on the same two days at several private colleges is new.
