Unexpected Study Spot

sofa in Tochi

Tochi Products and Specialty Foods
1111 2nd Ave. N., Fargo

While most people wouldn’t expect a health products store to host a quiet study spot, Tochi does just that. Having been in the community since 1971, Tochi delivers a ton of fun snacks, ingredients, and loose-leaf teas to the F-M area. Walk around, buy a snack, grab a cup of coffee with a freewill donation, and go upstairs to the community space to hunker down and get your work done.

Caffeine Fix

Red Raven interior

Red Raven Espresso Parlor
916 Main Ave., Fargo

Arguably my favorite study spot in the F-M area, Red Raven is cozy and full of life. Local art hangs on the walls, well-worn couches and booths throughout really make this place feel homey. Luckily, Red Raven has plenty of outlets for you to plug in your devices and the Wi-Fi password is available at the counter. If you are the snack-while-study type, check out the menu, which offers vegetarian and vegan options. Ask for my personal favorite, an iced raspberry matcha latte, or look at the seasonal drink list. Red Raven drinks never disappoint.

Cobber Hot Spot

If you don’t mind working in a social area, try out Third Drop Coffee (formerly Moxie Java). There are two locations, one in Moorhead and one in downtown Fargo, but the Moorhead location is larger with a better chance of snagging a table to study at. Lots of natural light floods the space, and you are bound to see other Cobbers socializing or tucked away studying. If you prefer privacy, check to see if the backroom has open space.

Guaranteed Quiet

If you need a change of pace from the Carl B., try hitting up the main branch of the Fargo Public Library. If you find that your work is particularly painstaking, bring your backpack up to the second floor for a date with an empty desk. With knowledgeable librarians and library resources at your fingertips, you will be able to finish your assignments in no time. Plus, it is sure to be a quiet place.

Best Late-Night Location

Kroll’s Diner
1033 45th St. S., Fargo

In a perfect world, nobody would have to do homework past 10 p.m. But, if you find yourself needing a place that is open 24/7, check out Kroll’s Diner. The big booths allow for lots of table space to spread out. Kroll’s has less foot traffic at night, so expect a quiet place to study. If you need encouragement to finish your homework, order a piece of rhubarb kuchen – it is a magical experience.
