You can be on the forefront of technology and cutting-edge innovation with a degree in computer science from Concordia.

Technology is everywhere. It impacts the cars we drive, the way we do basic things like watch TV or read a book and even how we share our lives. It’s also affected the world of business at a rapid rate. According to Forbes, corporate technology spending is expected to reach $3.7 billion this year.

Computer science opens doors to virtually any technology-related career imaginable, even ones that don’t currently exist. With a computer science degree, you can develop new apps, research software its applications, and create new technology programs to help solve real-world problems.

The Offutt School of Business Difference

As a computer science major or minor in the Offutt School of Business, you’ll study in the Parke Innovation Lab, where you’ll have the latest industry technology and tools. This sandbox environment allows you to work in development, networking, and server administration in a hands-on environment.

Computer science majors engage in core classes like fundamental programming concepts, database management, and web application development.

As you learn more about computer science and the path you want your career to take, you’ll focus on one of two concentrations: computing or data analytics.

The computing concentration focuses on areas like software engineering and operating systems artificial intelligence.
A data analytics concentration focuses more on data mining and forecasting statistical models.

From there, you can participate in work-study opportunities in software engineering, IT services, web development, and more. You can also volunteer for an area nonprofit in the technology space or join a computer science or software engineering club.

When you graduate, your career can take any number of paths. Concordia computer science graduates have gone on to be software engineers, data analysts, systems administrators, analysts, web or mobile application developers, and database developers.

Program Options

In addition to the major in computer science with a computing or data analytics concentration, Concordia students can minor in computer science or data analytics, or they can earn an undergraduate academic certificate in applied data analytics (NEW IN 2024). Starting in Fall 2024, students will also have the option of a data science major!
