Ron Twedt brings professional experience from 11 years in public accounting as a tax specialist before he began his career at Concordia, and he continues to provide consulting services as time and opportunity permits. He has served as site coordinator for student volunteers in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program since beginning at Concordia. Twedt has also been active in the North American Accounting Society, serving as a board member and as a reviewer, discussant, and presenter at conferences. His interests include the fascinating and dynamic world of income taxation, as well as ethics and financial accounting issues for governmental entities and not-for-profits.
Twedt encourages students to build their knowledge base as a starting point, and then to move on to own an understanding of the “how” and “why” behind the rules and standards in course topics. Additionally, they should have direct experiences that connect their conceptual understandings to the activities of people and organizations. They will then be prepared to participate in informed decision-making that not only complies with technical requirements but also supports broader strategies that reflect good values.
