Established on 06.03.2014 by the Estate of E. Jeanne LeClaire '38 Aune

Blessed with no children of their own, early in their married life Don and Jeanne, with deep affection for Jeanne’s alma mater and being considerably involved in its activities, decided to give the bulk of their estate to Concordia College, designating those funds for an endowed scholarship fund.

Jeanne, having graduated from Enderlin (ND) High School in 1934 and Concordia College in 1938, made her career in education as an English teacher and a librarian. Upon Don’s return from World War II, during which he had served in the Pacific Theater, Don and Jeanne moved to Brainerd, MN, where Don worked for the Minnesota Highway Department as a district engineer and where they lived for the rest of their lives. Jeanne touched the lives of many students with her dignified, professional guidance during her teaching career in McGregor, Motley, Nisswa and Brainerd, MN.

For Jean, having molded and shaped hundreds of young students whom she mentored, academically and personally, and having participated in her beloved Alpha Kappa Delta education sorority, the desire was natural to create such a meaningful, substantive memorial gift with Don’s thoughtful partnership and support.

The Donald J. and E. Jeanne LeClaire '38 Aune Memorial Endowed Scholarship is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid. Selection is based on financial need and scholastic achievement.
