Arthur “Art” Clarence Fevig, son of George and Betsy (Johnson) Fevig, was born August 19, 1887, in Moorhead, MN. He graduated from Moorhead High School and attended Business College in Fargo, ND.  After college, he began a life-long career in public service by working in the city auditor’s office. He was elected Clay County Treasurer in 1918, and shortly after, on July 14, 1918, enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served in World War I. After being honorably discharged, Art continued to serve as Clay County Treasurer for the next 46 years until his retirement. He was also a charter member of the Moorhead American Legion.

Ruth Jenny Williamson, daughter of Julia and Oscar Williamson, was born on October 6, 1901, in Portland, ME. Ruth attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, graduating in 1923 with a bachelor’s degree and went on to complete additional educational studies at the University of Minnesota. Ruth taught English in schools in Tower City, ND, Minneapolis, MN, and since the 1930s, in Moorhead, MN, at Moorhead High School until her retirement. She also volunteered for 20 years at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Fargo as well as at the Moorhead Thrift Shop.

Art married Ruth in Minneapolis on June 8, 1940 and they made Moorhead their home.  Ruth and Art were life-long active members of Trinity Lutheran Church, where Art served as a deacon for eight years and as a trustee for an additional eight years. They raised one son, George Arthur Fevig. George attended Concordia College from 1959 to 1963, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business.

Fevig family members have long been supporters of Concordia College and the C-400 Society. Art, his brother, George V. Fevig, and Ruth were three of the first four hundred C-400 members who raised money to build the Carl B. Ylvisaker Library on Concordia’s campus.

The Arthur C. and Ruth W. Fevig Endowed Scholarship in Business-Economics is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to one or more junior or senior students majoring in business, with preference given to students graduating with a concentration in economics.
