Established on 05.18.1983 by George A. '63 and Scheryl J. Fevig and Ruth W. Fevig
George Fevig ‘63, son of Arthur Clarence Fevig and Ruth Williamson Fevig, grew up in Moorhead, MN, and attended high school at the Moorhead Teachers Campus School. Following graduation, George attended Concordia College in Moorhead where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1963, after which he pursued an MBA from the University of Chicago. After serving his country in the United States Air Force, he began a long career in accounting, most notably for Ernst & Ernst (currently EY - Ernst & Young), Tonka Toys, Domino’s Pizza, and Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota. He also taught accounting at Augsburg College.
In 1964, George met Scheryl Jeanne Schmidt, daughter of Herman Eilert Schmidt and Hulda Margaret (Seydel) Schmidt, from Lakefield, MN. Sheryl worked as a registered nurse. They were married in rural Rost Township in Jackson County, MN on June 19th, 1965 and shortly after moved to Bloomington, MN. George and Sheryl raised three girls: Elizabeth Ann (Olson), Kristine Marie (Christensen), and Gretchen Margaret (Noah) '93.
George’s passion for numbers was passed on to all of his daughters. Elizabeth graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Moorhead State University (currently Minnesota State University Moorhead). Kristine graduated with a bachelor’s degree in math and economics from St. Olaf College and went on to earn an MBA with a concentration in accounting from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Gretchen ’93 graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business/accounting from Concordia College. Following in the footsteps of their father, Kristine and Gretchen also began their careers in public and private accounting. George and Sheryl are incredibly proud of their children and nine grandchildren - Abby and Todd Olson, Grace and George Christensen, and fellow Cobbers Maggie ’19, Kelly ’21, Mary ’23, Markie '26, and Katherine Noah '27.
George Fevig passed away on November 29, 2015, leaving behind a legacy of accountants, mathematicians and business professionals. He was always proud to have attended Concordia College and that his mother, father, and uncle, George V. Fevig, were three of the first four hundred C-400 members who raised money to build the Carl B. Ylvisaker Library on Concordia’s campus.
The George ’63 and Scheryl Fevig Endowed Scholarship in Accounting is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to one or more junior or senior students majoring in accounting, with preference given to students who have plans to begin their careers in public accounting. Selection is also based upon scholastic achievement, character, and financial need.
