Susan E. and Dean K. Norbeck have been philanthropic leaders in their communities and their church. They are passionate supporters of Concordia College and many other colleges and universities whose students have touched their lives through music in meaningful ways.

Their connection to Concordia stems from a life-long enjoyment of singing and appreciation for instrumental and choral music, which has played a vital role in their lives. In 2020, the Norbecks attended a concert by The Concordia Choir, directed by longtime choral director Dr. René Clausen, at Moorings Presbyterian Church in Naples, Florida. That beautiful and electric concert, combined with the Norbecks’ deep appreciation for choral music, inspired the couple to establish this educational scholarship at the College, where music continues to be an essential part of the Concordia experience and culture. Whether majoring in music or not, all students are encouraged to share their musical talents on campus, and one-third of all students do so.

The Norbecks hope their educational support encourages students to pursue their dreams while instilling in them a lifelong love of music.

The Susan E. and Dean K. Norbeck Endowed Scholarship Fund is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to sophomore, junior, or senior students majoring in any field of study with preference given to non-music majors who have a strong interest in traditional classical vocal music and participate in one of Concordia’s core choral programs, currently The Concordia Choir, Chapel Choir, Cantabile, and Kantorei. Selection will also be based on financial need and scholastic achievement (minimum GPA 2.75). Qualified recipients may receive the scholarship in subsequent years.
