Established by Dr. Paul '65 and Claire Spilseth

During the time Paul was a student at Concordia College, Physics Professor, Carl Bailey, wrote the following well chosen words which became the mission statement for the college.

 “The purpose of Concordia College is to influence the affairs of the world by sending into society thoughtful and informed men and women dedicated to the Christian life.” 

The intent of the For the Common Good Scholarship is to support the mission statement by encouraging future health professionals to be thoughtful and informed participants on issues like universal health coverage, food security, affordable housing, voting rights, climate change, and firearm control.

Paul Spilseth, MD, MS grew up in Kensington, Minnesota. He graduated from Concordia in 1965 and studied medicine at the University of Minnesota. He practiced Family Medicine and Urgent Care in Stillwater and St. Paul, Minnesota for 50 years. 

He and his wife, Claire, have three children and two grandchildren. Together they been active in their community promoting social issues, outdoor childhood education, and the environment.

This scholarship is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to one or more students pursuing a degree in any of Concordia's health-related majors.
