Dawn and Ronald Struxness are grateful for the opportunities that Concordia College provided to them, both curricular and extracurricular. Dawn’s liberal arts degree enabled her to work in a variety of fields: from teaching high school English, to writing curriculum, and working in college administration, sales, and travel consulting. Her volunteer work with Literacy Volunteers, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Loaves and Fishes continue to employ her Concordia-honed communication skills. For 45 years, Ronald’s professional life has been devoted to the management of hospitals and health systems in the Midwest. These have included small, rural hospitals and inner-city hospitals in Chicago, as well as two of the three largest nonacademic, tertiary teaching hospitals in the Chicago area. The Chicago experience also included senior executive roles in the two largest health systems in the metropolitan area. Mr. Struxness’ parents also operated a nursing home.

Given the Struxness family’s experience in healthcare, The Ronald E. ’63 and Dawn Maasjo ’65 Struxness Endowed Scholarship be awarded to junior or senior students who are planning a career in healthcare including, but not limited to, the fields of medicine, nursing, rehabilitation professions, and/or hospital and health system management. Selection will be further based on scholastic achievement and financial need as defined by the Office of Financial Aid.
