Carolyn Joy Lee was an avid learner and loved languages and travel. She was a strong proponent of the mission of Concordia Language Villages. Carolyn, or Sybille as she was better known at CLV, spent some of her happiest times at Waldsee (German Camp) in Northern Minnesota. Carolyn’s father, H. Clifford Lee, first discovered the language camp in the early 1960s after conducting a grant review visit on behalf of the A.G. Bush Charitable Foundation. This introduction began a lifelong relationship between Concordia Language Villages and the Lee family. Carolyn started out as a camper at age six and continued through college, working as a camp counselor. She continued her association with Concordia Language Villages, serving on the National Advisory Council and spending many happy summers at camp as a supporter and friend. The family tradition continues as her son, Jasper, attended Japanese and German camps, and other family members attended the French and Swiss camps of Concordia Language Villages. In honor of Carolyn’s lifetime association with Concordia Language Villages and her generous spirit, the Carolyn Joy Lee Endowed Scholarship fund has been established to continue to provide the gift of learning languages that Carolyn cherished so dearly.

The Carolyn Joy Lee Endowed Scholarship is awarded to students attending a summer youth session of any length at Concordia Language Villages based on financial need.
