Support Cobber Cross Country
A Message from Coach Van Beek:
Happy fall from Cobber Cross Country!
Thank you for all you’ve done to support our team so far—your gifts, meet attendance, or simply following our team on social media is so appreciated! We’re kicking off our 2023 season by heading to Maplewood State Park for a few days of camping, team building, and our first team long run on the trails. We’re excited to get our season rolling with our first competition on September 8th at MSUM.
Highlights from 2022:
Senior Leo Smith was the 8th Cobber ever to achieve an All-Region finish. Leo was 20th at the MIAC Championships and 32nd at the NCAA North Region meet with a 25:26 lifetime best 8k. Sophomore Joe Lee was our second Cobber at MIAC in 21st place. Our men’s team was 5th place at MIAC for the second year in a row—the first time since 1983 that the Cobber men have been top 5 for consecutive years. We placed 14th at Regionals and moved up from conference to be the 4th MIAC school to finish.
Seniors Emily Rugloski and Amelia Landsverk traded the top 2 spots for our team all season long. Emily was 28th at the MIAC Championships, just outside All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. Both Emily and Amelia had career-best seasons by PR-ing in the 4k, 5k, and 6k. Sophomore Airial Johnson improved immensely this year by dropping almost two minutes off her 6k time and scored for the team in 5 out of 7 meets. Our women’s team was 7th place at the MIAC Championships and 18th at Regionals.
Both teams are doing just as much in the classroom as they are on the course, as both received USTFCCA All-Academic Team Honors. Leo Smith was an All-Academic Individual, and Leo, Emily Rugloski, and Drew Frolek also were recognized as Academic All-District for their running and academic accomplishments this year.
Your impact on our student-athletes does not go unnoticed, and they would not be where they are today without people like you. Each athlete has chosen a handful of individuals to reach out to with the goal of raising funds to help with team-specific operations. If you are not able to make a monetary contribution at this time, we thank you for your consideration and continued support.
Thank you for your time, and as always, Roll Cobbs!
