Concordia to host Memorial Auditorium ribbon-cutting ceremony
Concordia College will celebrate the renovations of Memorial Auditorium with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.
Built in 1952, Memorial underwent a $2.5 million renovation over the summer. The update included two new wood courts, including the game court, seating upgrades to selected rows, new lighting and new video scoreboards. The walls and ceiling also received new coats of paint and new Cobber branding was placed on the walls.
“I’m excited for Cobber fans and the public to have a chance to see the new Memorial Auditorium,” Concordia Athletic Director Rachel Bergeson said. “The vibe inside the building is completely different but the character of the original Memorial Auditorium remains. It will be a great venue for our student-athletes for many years to come.”
In addition to the courts, seating, lighting, video boards and cosmetic updates, the arena will also feature new basket standards and shot clocks.
The first contest in the newly renovated Memorial Auditorium is scheduled for Sept. 15 when the Cobber volleyball team hosts Mayville State at 7 p.m. The opening basketball game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. when the men’s team hosts Luther. The women’s basketball team will have their first game in Memorial on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m. The Concordia wrestling team will also benefit from the renovation as there will be specialized lighting just for wrestling. Their first home meet is slated for Thursday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. against cross-town rival MSU Moorhead.
