Grad Recognized for Excellence

Cobber Connections: Paul Spilde ’93, Minnetonka, Minn., received a prestigious award.

Spilde, a physical therapist with Park Nicollet Rehab Services, was honored with the 2018 Award of Excellence by the Minnesota Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (MNACVPR). The award recognizes Spilde’s outstanding contributions to cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation. His expertise in clinical practice and leadership, and his devotion to the field exemplify the criteria and the meaning of the award.

Some of Spilde’s many accomplishments during his tenure at Park Nicollet include developing a program that is now a community resource for people who want to improve their health through exercise while getting some medical supervision, support and education. He was also instrumental in the design of the Rehab and Fitness Center, where team members can go for a convenient, affordable and personable setting for their exercise needs.

Spilde joined Park Nicollet Rehab Services in 1997; he oversees the multidisciplinary team in the Rehabilitation and Fitness Center. His team serves patients with cardiac and pulmonary issues, cancer rehab needs, PAD (Peripheral Artery Disease), bariatric surgery or weight loss goals, Enhanced External Counter Pulsation (EECP), and others who may benefit from supervised exercise programs.

The mission of the MNACVPR is to reduce morbidity, mortality, and disability from cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases through education, prevention, rehabilitation, research, and aggressive disease management.

Each year the organization recognizes an outstanding individual who works in the field of cardiac and/or pulmonary rehab as the recipient of the Award of Excellence.
