In the News: Communications professor featured in NPR story

Dr. Kirsten Theye, professor of communication studies and program director of social activism, was recently featured as an expert in a National Public Radio report examining the use of inflammatory political language, specifically used by former President Donald Trump.

Theye has studied Trump’s rhetoric since he ran for president in 2015. She has examined his speeches and social media posts, including those on his platform, Truth Social.

“One of the things that I've been noticing lately on Truth Social is the framing of next year's election as sort of a last chance for America,” Theye said in the report. “So, he's sharing content, and his supporters are sharing content with the message of ‘this is our final battle to save America.’ And the implication of this is what? This is the very last election for our country?”
