CONCORDIA CULTURAL EVENTS PRESENTS

DUO 1717

Concordia’s Cultural Events will present a performance by Duo 1717 at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Christiansen Recital Hall, Hvidsten Hall of Music.

A classical crossover duo, baritone Jean Bernard Cerin and pianist Veena K. Kulkarni fuse art, folk, world and religious idioms to celebrate individual communities while also creating spaces for intercultural dialogue. With Indian-Filipino-American and Haitian backgrounds, Kulkarni and Cerin synthesize a broad cultural heritage with their rigorous western classical training to explore music from all around the globe. Together, they bring new sounds to conventional classical music audiences and share the rich tradition of western art music with new audiences.

The Duo will be performing their “Krik Krak: Stories of Africa and the New World” program – Haitian folk songs and storytelling meet Cuban and Brazilian art music seasoned with the words of Langston Hughes. Add a side of American Negro Spirituals and Art Song and you have a feast of words and music!

Tickets for the performance are $20 for adult general admission and $10 for students under 18. For tickets, visit ConcordiaTickets.com or call the Office of Cultural Events at (218) 299-4366.
