CONCORDIA EVENT TO DISCUSS RELIGION AND POLITICS

Political challenges take religion in new directions

Moorhead, Minn.--The Lorentzsen Center for Faith and Work continues its exploration of the question “How do we build a more trustworthy world?” in April’s: “Religious Resilience in the Face of Political Challenges” with Dr. Paul Djupe from noon-1 p.m. CDT Tuesday, April 4. The event is a hybrid in-person and virtual conversation in Barry Auditorium in the Grant Center.

Djupe's keynote will address how new political challenges often take American religion in new directions. His research primarily investigates how religious communities provide political information and how members make sense of and use that information. He examines social networks in churches, clergy political speech and engagement, small group interactions, and as well as experimental results regarding how individuals react to religious cues used by political actors and political cues used by religious actors.

Djupe is a political scientist at Denison University directing the Data for Political Research program and specializing in religion and politics, social networks, gender and politics, and political behavior. He is an affiliated scholar with Public Religion Research Institute and the editor of the “Religious Engagement in Democratic Politics” series with Temple University Press. He was coeditor of “Politics & Religion” (2011-16) and currently blogs for religioninpublic.blog and has also contributed to 538, the Monkey Cage, and others.

The event is free. You’re invited to bring your own lunch to the in-person event. Please register at LorentzsenCenter.com. Call 218.299.3305 for more information. A link will be sent after registration for those choosing the virtual option.
