But summers aren’t complete without some fresh corn on the cob. This summer, Concordia is sponsoring corn feeds across the country for alumni, students, and friends to gather together and celebrate what it means to be a Cobber, and we want you to be a part of them. Check out the list!

You’re probably wondering “but why should I go to one?” Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s well worth it for these five reasons.

1. Corn is delicious.

There’s nothing more summery than grilling up some corn on the cob and dousing it in butter and salt. It’s even better when someone else cooks it for you. Over the course of the summer, we’ll go through thousands of ears of corn across the country and we want to share this deliciousness with you.

2. Who doesn’t love a good cookout?

There’s something for every type of person — whether it’s the tasty food, the fun games, the engaging conversation, or the good spirit that you leave with. Corn feeds are the epitome of a Midwest cookout and, as Cobbers near and far, we embrace what it means to come from the Mild, Mild Midwest.

3. Cobbers are great people.

Cobbers are some of the best people I’ve ever met, regardless if I’ve known them for five years or for five minutes. The great thing about corn feeds is that you get to interact with Concordia grads across generations — learning about their time at Concordia, their favorite memories, and what they’re doing now. Once I met a 1942 graduate at one of the corn feeds and hearing about his Concordia experience made me love mine even more. Whether or not you’re a social butterfly, getting to meet new Cobber friends at corn feeds is pretty sweet.

4. Winning prizes rocks.

Not only do corn feeds have incredible food and awesome people, but there’s also the chance to win some great prizes. Awards for the farthest traveler, youngest Cobb, and oldest Cobb traditionally are given out with prizes at every corn feed, but the one people get most excited about is the Corn Eating Contest. Yes, folks, we offer a competition to see who can eat the most corn. It’s amazing to see how many ears of corn those 7-year-olds can eat when they want to win a prize. Even if you’re not up for competing, cheering others on makes for a fun atmosphere and a very full stomach.

5. The Cobber community stays strong.

Even though you probably wear your Cobber swag around your hometown and strike up conversations when you see the Cobber ring, you’d be surprised to see just how many Cobbers are in your community. Cities and towns across the country are populated with Concordia alumni, and you never know who or how many there are until you’re all sitting around the picnic table sharing stories. Corn feeds are a great way to meet those Cobbers and to see that you’re not alone, especially if you’ve just moved to a new home.

Cobber corn feeds have been a summer pastime for ages and we can’t wait to kick off another fun-filled season of corn on the cob. I’ve been to more than 30 corn feeds in my life and can personally tell you that they’re one of the most exciting and fun events of the year. Join us this summer as we celebrate Cobber Country across the U.S.
