A Heart for the Community

Her infectious positivity, compassion and love for the Fargo-Moorhead community are evident not only to her friends and colleagues but to all whom she serves in her work as the president of the United Way of Cass-Clay in Fargo.

As the organization’s newly appointed leader, Huber says she is excited to see how the nonprofit can give back and make a difference in the community in the coming years.

“The United Way focuses on many of the most challenging and difficult social issues that are facing our community,” Huber says.

Connecting people to people, needs to resources and experts to advocates, the United Way seeks to improve the lives and advance the common good throughout Cass and Clay counties. The organization’s five Bold Community Goals focus on reducing hunger and homelessness, preparing children for success, helping people be independent, lifting people out of poverty, and raising and investing $29 million by 2020.

Huber says that all the success of the United Way is due to the amazing community of volunteers that are passionate about making a difference.

“What nonprofits need are the talented, enthusiastic individuals that are coming out of Concordia,” she says. “Cobbers understand what it means to BREW (Become Responsibly Engaged in the World) and be a part of the greater community and world.”

As a member of Concordia’s National Alumni Board, Huber encourages students to get involved in the community during their college years and start building connections. One of the aspects she appreciates most about her work with the United Way is the opportunity to get to know a variety of people from all across the region – from educators and nonprofits to corporations and small businesses.

But the greatest reason to get involved is the opportunity to make a lasting impact. 

“By giving back to others and sharing your talents and resources, you can absolutely change the world around you,” Huber says.
