Questions to ask:

  1. What requirements do I have left to complete for my degree- major, minor or CORE?
  2. What courses or requirements should I take at Concordia?
  3. When are they offered? This question is very important, especially if a course is only offered every other spring or only in the fall, for example. This can help determine when NOT to study away.
  4. What CORE requirements do I have left, and can I take them abroad?
  5. What assistance can you provide with advising on course selection away, and completing my Course Equivalency Form?
  6. If I am unable to take my planned courses while away, may I contact you for guidance in selecting other courses to take?
  7. How should I schedule my advising meeting while away, so I can obtain my Alt-PIN?
  8. Would you like me to follow up with you when I return?

Questions for after acceptance to a program—Course Equivalency Form
If your advisor has agreed to assist with your Course Equivalency Form you should schedule an appointment to meet with them to discuss the courses you would like to take abroad.

Before your appointment:

  • Review the available courses on Transfer Notebook and the host program website-If you do not know where to find these ask Global Learning.
  • Review the information from your previous conversation with your academic advisor (questions 1, 2, and 3).
  • Have a list of 10 courses you are interested in taking.
  • Bring the syllabus or course descriptions with you to the meeting or email a link of them to your advisor prior to your meeting so they can review the descriptions and make recommendations on the degree requirements each course might fulfill at Concordia.
  • Take good notes from this meeting, so you can refer to them when you complete your Course Equivalency Form.

The goal at the end of the meeting is to have 6-8 host school courses chosen that could meet specific Concordia degree requirements (CORE, major, minor or elective).
