Dr. Grigor Khachatryan
Assistant Professor, Piano
Born in Yerevan, Armenia, pianist-composer Grigor Khachatryan began his musical studies at Barsej Kanachyan’s Music School of Yerevan. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Khachatryan moved to the United States and continued his musical development under the tutelage of distinguished professor of piano Luba Edlina-Dubinsky at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he earned his bachelor’s, master’s and performer diploma degrees. In addition, Dr. Khachatryan holds a doctorate degree in piano performance, composition and music theory from the Jacobs School of Music.
During his graduate studies, he served as junior faculty of piano at the Jacobs School of Music, where he taught undergraduate and graduate piano courses and established himself as a prominent soloist and a prizewinner of multiple international piano competitions.
Recent highlights include Dr. Khachatryan’s debut at Carnegie Hall and the 2016-2017 national concert tour with the Concordia Symphony Orchestra during which he performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Currently, Dr. Khachatryan is working on premiering, recording and publishing two of his large piano sonatas.
Dr. Khachatryan actively concertizes as a soloist and as a chamber musician throughout the United States making close to hundred appearances annually. He is equally passionate about composing new music and educating the young musical minds of our generation at Concordia College, where he serves as assistant professor of piano.
