Andrew Young is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Cobbers in 2025.
Young joins the coaching staff after a distinguished playing career that saw him reach the pinnacle of the baseball world. Young made his Major League Baseball debut Aug. 1, 2020, against the Los Angeles Dodgers as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Young is originally from West Fargo, North Dakota, and started his baseball career as a member of the West Fargo High School squad, where he was named the North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year in 2012.
Young began his college career at the University of Jamestown. After his freshman season with the Jimmies, he transferred to Neosho Community College in Chanute, Kansas. He played for Neosho for one season and then moved on to an NCAA Division I school, Indiana State. He played for the Sycamores for two seasons and was named to the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Honorable Mention Team in 2015 and the MVC All-Conference Third Team in 2016 after having a slash line of .299/.414/.480 and hitting six home runs with 34 RBI.
Young was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2016 MLB draft and went on to play in the minor leagues with the Cardinals before getting traded to the Diamondbacks on Dec. 5, 2018.
Young went on to play for the Diamondbacks for the 2020 and 2021 seasons before signing with the Washington Nationals after the 2021 season.
Young's duties for the Cobbers encompass all areas of the game.
