Gwen Wagstrom Halaas is dean of the Sanford Heimarck School of Health Professions. She was most recently vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at Washington State University Health Sciences in Spokane where she led the development of interprofessional education in the schools of medicine, nursing, and pharmacology. Prior to that, she was senior associate dean for education at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She has had leadership roles at the University of Minnesota and at health plans including Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota, HealthPartners, Portico, and UCare. Areas of expertise include interprofessional education, rural health education, and healthcare systems. Halaas earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and social work from Concordia College, a medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and an MBA in Healthcare from the University of St. Thomas.
