Celebrating Student Center Relocations

Student Success and the King Center relocate.

Two centers on Concordia’s campus celebrated the opening of new locations on Friday.

The Center for Student Success celebrated its relocation to the renovated Normandy in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception. Previously located in the lower level of Fjelstad, the new space was designed by Zerr Berg Architects and was made possible by a generous donation from Jim Parke ’68 and his wife, Marilyn. The space houses more than 170 student leaders, as well as the Peer Mentor program, Orientation and First-Year Transition Programming, and the diversity coordinator for Student Support Services.

Later that afternoon, the Martin Luther King Center celebrated the soft launch of its relocation to the Wall Student Lounge in the Knutson Campus Center. Previously located in the lower level of Park Region Hall, the move was strategic in its effort to be in a more central location on campus. Glory Kom Petnkeu ’19, lead commissioner of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission, and Dr. Earl Lewis ’78, chair of the Concordia Board of Regents, were two of the highlighted speakers at the event. They each spoke on the importance of the King Center and its mission to be a place of activity, learning and belonging. The campus community will have the opportunity to see more transformation in the space throughout the semester.
