Norwegian author to speak at Concordia for One Book, One Community

Celebrated Norwegian author Lars Mytting will speak at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, in the Centrum, Knutson Campus Center, at Concordia College in Moorhead as part of the One Book, One Community program.

Since 2013, One Book, One Community has encouraged the entire Fargo-Moorhead community to read one book to create shared conversation. Mytting’s “The Bell in the Lake” was selected for the program in May, in part to reflect a Norwegian theme celebrating the bicentennial of the first organized emigration of Norwegians to the U.S.

“The Bell in the Lake,” published in 2020, tells the story of a pair of mystical bells said to tell the future, as well as the tale of Astrid Hekne, a woman longing for a more modern life. The novel, set in a remote part of Norway in 1879, explores the clash of past and future.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, and a book signing will follow the author's presentation. Books will be available for purchase. Parking on the Concordia campus is also free.

This event will also be streamed at ConcordiaCollege.edu/Livestream.

This program is made possible in part through funding from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, Friends of the Moorhead Library, and others.
