Oboe Professor to Perform in Thailand

The conference features “world-class music facilities set in a lush tropical environment.”

Dr. Kelley Tracz, assistant professor of oboe, has been invited to perform at the 2023 International Double Reed Conference this summer in the Nakhon Pathom province of Thailand, just outside Bangkok.

Tracz will be performing in the “Of Infinity” recital, which includes the international premiere of a new work by Dr. Alyssa Morris, assistant professor of oboe at Kansas State University, a double oboe concerto titled "Of Infinity.” The oboe parts will be played by both Tracz and Morris, along with pianist Glenn Harman. Tracz is also playing the English horn on two other premieres at the concert.

“I am incredibly excited to represent Concordia on the international stage and perform with Dr. Alyssa Morris at the annual conference for double reeds,” Tracz said. “It is an honor to share her music with the world and I am very much looking forward to this opportunity to experience and explore Thailand for the first time."

Along with teaching, Tracz is very active as both a performer and educator in Minnesota and beyond. She has performed with numerous orchestras across the country. Tracz has served as a faculty artist for the national double reed camp, Bocal Majority, and was the premier instructor for the 2017 camp in Austin, Texas. She was the oboe instructor at Camp Bernstein of Blue Lakes Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Mich., for three consecutive seasons and has served as the oboe instructor for the Kansas State University Music Camp for seven seasons.

Tracz completed her Bachelor of Music degree at Kansas State University, earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Minnesota where she was a Berneking Fellow, and received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in oboe performance and Post Baccalaureate Certificate in ethnomusicology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Each summer, the International Double Reed Society presents a five-day international conference held in a different location each year. The conference features round-table discussions, lectures and presentations, reading sessions, and world-class performances of works both classic and new. The conference will be held July 18-22 at Mahidol University.
