Turn a passion for sports into a career at Concordia with new sports management program

Students interested in the business side of athletics will have a new opportunity at Concordia College this fall. The new sports management concentration within the business major is designed to prepare graduates for successful careers in one of the fastest-growing sectors of the global workforce.

“Sports are major contributors to economies,” said Dr. Jorge Scarpin, department chair for the Offutt School of Business. “This offers students meaningful pathways into careers that combine business skills, creativity, and community engagement.”

The concentration blends Concordia’s liberal arts foundation and strong business training with focused study of the sports industry.

Students will build skills in areas such as event planning, sponsorship development, analytics, and fan engagement. They will also explore the managerial, financial, legal, and marketing aspects of sports.

Through internships, hands-on projects, and partnerships with organizations across the Fargo–Moorhead area, students will engage with collegiate athletics, youth sports programs, and community partners.

“The program emphasizes applied learning, giving students opportunities to connect classroom concepts to real-world sports settings,” Scarpin said.

The concentration also develops transferable skills such as strategic decision-making, data analysis, and ethical leadership.

“We’re excited to be offering this program,” Scarpin said. “It prepares students to pursue careers in a growing industry while staying engaged with something they care deeply about.”
