31ST ANNUAL WOODLAND & HIGH PLAINS
POWWOW TO BE HELD AT CONCORDIA

The 31st annual celebration of the Woodlands & High Plains Traditional Powwow, sponsored by Concordia, Minnesota State University Moorhead, Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State), North Dakota State University and North Dakota State College of Science, will be held Noon to 10 p.m., Saturday, April 2, in Memorial Auditorium on the campus of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn. This year’s theme is “Generational Resilience.”

This annual event is one of the most popular cultural events in the Fargo-Moorhead area with more than 3,000 spectators and 200 dancers expected. This traditional powwow is an opportunity for people from all ages and backgrounds to celebrate and recognize Native American tradition and culture, honor American Indian graduates, and provide our community with a sense of pride in the American Indian heritage. The powwow was canceled the two previous years due to COVID-19.

The powwow will feature many styles of dance and drum songs from the area tribes, including Naamikaagejig (the ones who dance with a purpose for the people); Old Style Jingle Dress Special, sponsored by the Goodwin-Williams family; the Potato Dance, sponsored by the Powwow Committee; and Men’s Fancy sponsored by Alexa Gabbard.

The emcee is Mickey Hodges, member of White Earth Nation in Minnesota, and the arena director is Mike Gabbard. The Spiritual Advisor is Willard Yellowbird and the Honor Guard is the White Earth Veterans.

Admission for the event will be free for children five and under; $3 for children ages six to 17 and adults 55+; $5 for adults 18-54. College students (from Concordia College, M State, MSUM, NDSU and NDSCS) are admitted free with a valid student ID.
