CONCORDIA RESTARTS COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS ON WORKFORCE DILEMMAS

“The Big Quit: Why Millions of Americans are Leaving Their Jobs” Set for Nov. 18

The first of the 2021-22 Community Conversations presented by the Lorentzsen Center for Faith and Work, part of the Concordia College Offutt School of Business, is at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18. The event is a hybrid in-person and virtual conversation in Barry Auditorium in the Grant Center. “The Big Quit: Why Millions of Americans are Leaving Their Jobs,” features Jill Berg and Joyce Norals.

Berg is owner/president of Spherion Staffing and Insight Consulting, Inc., and Norals is chief human resource officer/vice president of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota.

The discussion will center on the millions of workers who have quit their jobs and the employers across all sectors struggling to hire and keep their workforces. The pandemic has provoked American workers to reflect on their needs and values and analysts say conventional incentives like better pay and benefits are not addressing the human aspects of work that employees seek. Long-standing discontent and massive disengagement with work are now causing major disruptions in the U.S. economy and raising great questions about the future of work.

The event is free. Please register at ConcordiaCollege.edu/businessevents. Call 218.299.3305 for more information. A link will be sent after registration for those choosing the virtual option.

The next event will be January 25. “Getting A Life: Finding Meaning Beyond Employment” will feature an author of a book on burnout culture.
