CONCORDIA COLLEGE RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARDS

FOR DINING EXCELLENCE

Concordia College Dining Services received a gold, two silvers and a bronze award for two dining locations, a catering event and recent sustainability efforts in the 2018 National Association of College and University Food Service (NACUFS) Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards.

The Maize, Concordia’s short-order café, took home the gold prize and was finalist for the grand prize among two other colleges and universities from across the country. Anderson Commons, Concordia’s residential dining facility, won silver for excellence in an all-you-care-to eat dining setting. Catering by Concordia also won silver, by capturing the judges’ attention with an inventive menu for a local business event hosted at the Trollwood Performing Arts School Center last spring.

Additionally, Concordia’s Dining Services received a bronze Sustainability award for its commitment to the college’s Taste Not Waste campaign – to reduce plate-waste by 50 percent by the year 2020. As of spring 2018, the campaign had reduced waste by 38 percent, well on track to meet its goal.

“All of these awards really recognize the excellent work that our team does every day serving our campus community,” said Nicole Crouch, director of Concordia’s Dining Services. “They also are a huge honor to receive, because they are judged by dining professionals at colleges and universities across the nation.”

NACUFS is a national organization that supports the college and university food service industry by providing members with benchmarking, best practices, educational programming and professional networking. The NACUFS Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards celebrate exemplary menus, presentations, special event planning and new dining concepts while providing members with an opportunity to share experiences and develop new ideas. Points are awarded by a panel of judges from around the country based on menu, recipes, marketing, customer satisfaction, promotions and more.

The NACUFS Sustainability Awards annually recognize and honor college and universities that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the promotion and implementation of environmental sustainability, specifically as it relates to campus dining operations.

Dining Services operates four dining facilities on Concordia’s campus in addition to operating the concessions stands. These locations are committed to providing excellent food, service and atmosphere for Concordia’s students, faculty, staff and visitors. Catering by Concordia, also managed by Dining Services, provides exceptional food for on-campus events in addition to weddings, business events and more across the Fargo/Moorhead community.
