FOURTH ANNUAL CARUS LECTURE AT CONCORDIA

Concordia College will present the fourth annual Carus Lecture in Philosophy, "Religion, Democracy, and Gay Marriage: Why Democracy May Be Good For Religion even if Religion is Uncomfortable with Democracy," featuring Dr. Kenneth Taylor at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Centrum, Knutson Campus Center. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Taylor is the Henry Waldgrave Stuart Professor of Philosophy at Stanford University. His research interests are in philosophy of mind and philosophy of language. He is currently working on three books and co-hosts a nationally syndicated radio show called Philosophy Talk with friend and colleague John Perry.

Concordia College created the Carus Professorship in Philosophy and the Carus Lectureship in recognition of gifts from the charitable trusts established by M. Elisabeth Carus and her brother Alwin C. Carus. The Carus’ grew up at LaSalle, Ill., and attended the University of Chicago, where Alwin established strong, lifelong connections that represented his deep interests in philosophy, science and religion.
