CONCORDIA MUSIC ENSEMBLE CONCERTS IN NOVEMBER

            The Department of Music at Concordia will present six ensemble concerts in November. All are free and open to the public.

The Concordia Orchestra Home Concert

4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6

Memorial Auditorium

The Concordia Orchestra concludes its fall tour with a home concert conducted by the newly appointed conductor Kevin Sütterlin.  In addition to works by Grieg, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, this performance will also include the world premiere of a 5-movement piece by Adam Hochstatter ’09 as well as faculty soloist, Dr. Grigor Khachatryan, performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto # 3.

 

Vocal Jazz Ensemble Concert

7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6

Christiansen Recital Hall

The student-led Vocal Jazz I is directed by Wyatt Steinke and Vocal Jazz II is directed by Jill Kadrmas

 

PRISM

4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12

Memorial Auditorium

This 10th annual PRISM concert is a unique continuous surround-sound experience, with one ensemble seamlessly following another without pause. Several instrumental groups, including The Concordia Band, the Symphonic Band, Echo Band, the Concordia Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Ensembles I and II, as well as several student chamber ensembles, will be performing. The audience is in the center of it all with the performing groups encircling it.

 

Echo Band Concert

5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13

Buxton/Hanson Hall, Hvidsten Hall of Music

The Echo Band is conducted by Dr. Peter Haberman, director of bands and assistant professor of music, along with four student conductors – Isaac McMahon, Miles Otstot, Jake Pavia and Kristine Strege, all seniors. The ensemble will be performing works by Aaron Perrine, Frank Ticheli and Adam Gorb, among others.

 

Fall Bands Concert

4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20

Memorial Auditorium

Featured at this concert will be The Symphonic Band, conducted by Dr. Nathaniel Dickey, and The Concordia Band, conducted by Dr. Peter Haberman. The Concordia Band will be performing Arnold Schoenberg’s original work for band titled “Theme and Variations, Op. 43a,” and the monumental four movement work by Karel Husa, “Music for Prague 1968.” The Symphonic Band will perform “Sunrise at Angel’s Gate,” by Philip Sparks; “An Original Suite” by Gordon Jacob; “Sheltering Sky” by John Mackey; and “Tunbridge Fair” by Walter Piston.

 

Symphonia/Tintinnabula Fall Concert

7 and 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22

Centrum, Knutson Campus Center

The Symphonia Orchestra, under the direction of Jane Linde Capistran, will begin its concert at 7 p.m. followed by the Tintinnabula Handbell Choir, under the direction of Jessica Westgard Larson, at 8:15 p.m.
