“Outlaw Christian” Wins Gold Illumination Awards
Dr. Jacqueline Bussie’s latest book, “Outlaw Christian: Finding Authentic Faith by Breaking the Rules,” has won a gold Illumination Award in the Christian Living category. Bussie is a religion professor and the director of The Forum on Faith and Life at Concordia.
The Illumination Awards are designed to honor the new works of authors which are written and published from a Christian worldview. This year’s 81 Illumination Award medalists went to books from 26 states, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Books are awarded in one of 20 categories. Anther notable winner was Pope Francis’ book “I Believe: The Promise of the Creed.”
Bussie’s book, “Outlaw Christian,” addresses the beliefs and myths that surround Christianity such as never getting angry with God, never doubting and never questioning. Bussie is on sabbatical this semester working on a second book for HarperCollins Christian Publishing and doing speaking engagements about “Outlaw Christian.” She says that at each event she encounters people who are struggling and are touched by the freeing nature of her book.
“I’ve learned that vulnerability and authenticity breed vulnerability and authenticity,” Bussie says. “I’ve also learned that when you take a risk and share your authentic story and struggles of faith and life with other people, they will share theirs back with you.”
Bussie’s new book is about radical agape – or the highest form of love.
