KRISTI LOBERG LEADS PRESIDENT’S SEMINAR
AS PART OF CONCORDIA 125TH CELEBRATION
Dr. Kristi K. Loberg, associate professor and program director of Social Work and a Flaat 125th Anniversary Faculty Award recipient, will lead a President’s Seminar as part of Concordia’s celebration of 125 years. The event is one of three President’s Seminars which will be led by Flaat 125th recipients. Dr. Craig Schwalbe ’91 is the featured speaker and will discuss “Being Against the -isms: From Bystander to Voice” at 9:20 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in the Centrum, Knutson Campus Center.
Inside and outside of the academy, institutions in American society are challenged by the forces of social justice that call on all of us to dismantle racism, marginalization and oppression. In this talk, Schwalbe will share his story of lost privilege in the struggle against the -isms, and through it will offer an analysis of contemporary efforts to transform our institutions. The goals of this talk are to stimulate critical thinking toward a common understanding of what it means to be against racism, marginalization, and oppression and to identify strategies to achieve our goals.
Schwalbe is an associate professor and associate dean for academic affairs for the Columbia University School of Social Work, New York City. He joined the social work profession during his studies at Concordia and has since worked in child welfare, child mental health and adult mental health agencies. His current scholarship focuses on the experiences of adolescents in the juvenile justice system. He lives in suburban New York City with his wife and three children.
The three Flaat 125th Anniversary Faculty Awards were presented to faculty members at the State of the College event in August.
The event is free and open to the public.
