CONCORDIA SENIOR RECEIVES FULBRIGHT
Rachel Schaefer, a senior at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program English Teaching Assistantship to Colombia.
A Spanish and education major, Schaefer, the daughter of Steve and Terese Schaefer, Moorhead, Minn., will be working at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia at Manizales. Manizales is the capital city of one of the smallest Colombian departments, Caldas. Colombia is divided into departments which are comparable to states. Manizales is located in the mountainous coffee-growing region of western Colombia near the Nevado del Ruiz volcano.
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program, sponsored by the U.S. government, designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and people of other countries. Recipients of Fulbright grants are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields. Since its establishment in 1946, approximately 380,000 students, scholars, teachers, artists and scientists have had the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
