CONCORDIA PRESENTS STORYTELLING EVENT TO PROMOTE PEACE

Women of different faiths tell their stories of peace, curiosity and connection

Concordia’s Cultural Events will present “Keeping Faith: Sisters of Story” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the Centrum, Knutson Campus Center, to the public.

Keeping Faith is a traveling ensemble born of a desire to bridge the divide and demonstrate peace and commonalties in the face of the hateful, vitriolic language and behavior in the country. Kim Schultz, writer, actor, director and storyteller specializing in comedic and authentic storytelling, has won awards for her stories. Professional storyteller and teaching artist Susan Stone’s stories have appeared in many anthologies and her recordings have garnered awards. Rohina Malik is an award-winning Chicago playwright and screenwriter whose plays have won critical acclaim and been presented across the U.S. and internationally. Each storyteller tells three stories inspired by their personal faith journey accompanied by cultural musical storyteller, arts organizer and writer Lucia Thomas, on violin, oud, and banjo.

"The Sisters of Story ensemble has a lot to share with us about storytelling as peace-building," said Deacon Jon Leiseth, Concordia College Campus Ministry. "Especially at this time when religion and faith so frequently fuel division, I'm thrilled that the ensemble will be spending three days with Concordia and the wider FM community."

NO TICKETS REQUIRED. The performance is free. In addition, a “Storytelling as Peace-Building” workshop at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, in Jones A/B, Knutson Campus Center, and a chapel service at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in Centrum, Knutson Campus Center, are open to the public free of charge.
