Fargo-Moorhead Internships

Each summer, many Cobbers take advantage of these opportunities through internships with various companies and organizations in the area. Read what some of these current students have been up to for the summer and how their positions are preparing them for the future.

Special projects intern with the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corp.

Joey Ness ’17
Majors: Communication Studies–Public Relations and Political Science

“My internship involves working on entrepreneurial expansion projects, drafting grant proposals and coordinating with other economic development officials. In addition to those duties, I am working to establish a tri-college unity council that will help build community between the five institutions and create stronger ties between colleges and the business community. I have learned how tight-knit and collaborative the Fargo-Moorhead community is. Much of the great work being done is made possible through strategic partnerships and a willingness to help each other. I have made connections with driven leaders in the community including folks at Emerging Prairie, the local small business development centers, leadership in the community and institutions, my fellow interns, and most importantly my supervisor John Machacek. These connections have inspired me to do greater and better things in my position and have taught me that it doesn't matter how old I am or what my title is – I can bring meaningful change to a community I love.”

Social media intern with Flint Group

Danyel Schneider ’17
Major/Minor: Business–Marketing; Art

“I knew I wanted to work for an ad agency in the digital marketing realm. I was on the lookout for openings at Flint since they are quite well known in the area, so I applied as soon as I saw the opening and went through the interview process. My internship consists of making content to be shared on social, planning out social content calendars, writing Facebook ads, creating blog posts, creating reports on social activity for brands, and making recommendations based on those results. The culture at Flint is modern and fun. I work with a small group on the social team and I think our group dynamic is really what keeps us all motivated and creative. We work hard and have a lot of fun along the way. I have learned a lot about receiving and interpreting social analytics. I have also become a lot more comfortable with tools such as Hootsuite, Brandwatch, Canva, Buffer, etc. Working on the FargoConnect event has helped me make a lot of connections and has given me the opportunity to meet and work with some pretty awesome people.”

IT intern with Intelligent InSites

Arne Woinarowicz ’18
Major: Business–Management Information Systems

“I heard about this internship through the Concordia Career Center and then applied and interviewed. As a member of the IT department, my job is about user support and system administration. In other words, I help employees in the office with their computer problems, help solve difficult issues and assist in maintaining the IT infrastructure that helps the company run efficiently. The coolest part of my internship is getting to be a domain administrator and having access to everything in the domain. I’ve learned a lot about common and uncommon computer issues, how to fix them, and how to change or control a computer using commands in the terminal. I have made friends both at work and through Emerging Prairie’s Intern Experience program that I can connect with in the future.”

Major/Minor: English Literature; Business

“My internship includes a lot of content creation: blogs, e-newsletters, website content – anything to get words on a page. I have really appreciated the freedom and responsibility that has been given to me this summer. I get to do my own thing a lot of the time, so it's been very liberating in the creating process. Through various programs I use, I've learned so much about tech and marketing, which has really amped up my tech and communication skills.”
