Visual Arts Scholarships

For first-year students, the scholarship is guaranteed through your sophomore year and is renewable for juniors and seniors, provided you maintain a 3.0 grade point average and are recommended by the faculty.
If you are selected for a Scholarship in the Visual Arts, you are required to declare an art major by the end of your sophomore year. All recipients following a studio art track will be expected to produce work for the annual Juried Student Art Exhibition and the Senior Art Exhibition in their final year of study.

Visual Arts Scholarship Application
Eligibility
To be eligible for a Scholarship in the Visual Arts:
- Be an incoming first-year or transfer student accepted for admission to Concordia
- Exhibit proficiency or intense interest in painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, photography, ceramics, or art history
This scholarship recognizes your potential participation and leadership as a collegiate-level artist or art historian and may be stacked with your Excellence Scholarship. Many recipients of this award will also qualify for additional financial scholarships and grants, in which case the Scholarship in the Visual Arts may become a component of a larger financial aid package.
The initial screening will be based on your scholarship application, Artist Statement responses, and a digital portfolio.
Application Process
Application requirements include a resume of your artistic or art historical background (including courses taken and involvement in arts organizations), other academic activities, and responses to the Artist Statement questions. Studio art applicants are also asked to submit a digital portfolio. If your interest is in art history or museum studies, we ask that you submit an essay in lieu of the portfolio.
- Apply and be accepted to Concordia for the fall semester.
- Complete the Visual Arts Scholarship application online, including the Artist Statement questions.
- Upload an artistic resume.
- Submit your portfolio of up to 10 of your best pieces. Your portfolio can be uploaded via a URL to an online portfolio, such as a Google Drive folder or website. If for any reason you are not able to provide your portfolio by either of those methods, you may email portfolio materials to Brandon Wente. Photographs of works should be labeled with your name, dimensions, medium, and title. Sample JPEG label: Olson, 24x30", acrylic, "Portrait." For sculpture or ceramic, two views of one piece may be provided.
Studio Art — Portfolio of works in any studio medium (clay, graphite, oil paint, plaster, watercolor, original prints, etc.) or combination of media.
Art History — In lieu of a portfolio, please submit an essay of at least 1,000 words that exemplifies your writing and research skills.
Selection
Finalists will be contacted by a member of the art faculty to arrange an in-person or video-conferencing meeting.
