With a major in accounting, there are a number of directions your career can take. Accounting prepares you for more than just a tax deadline. It can lead you to become a CFO for a private organization, a partner at a major public accounting firm, or an entrepreneur.

At the Offutt School of Business, we’re ready to help you apply your education to your dream career and become an ethical business leader.

The Offutt School of Business Difference

Through engaging classroom courses with dedicated faculty, you will learn accounting concepts to prepare you for your postgraduation goals. Many of our faculty have professional experience in accounting and finance positions with a variety of businesses and organizations.

Accounting majors choose from one of the following concentration areas:

  • Public Accountancy

Along with rigorous accounting courses, you'll take a variety of core business courses to prepare you to be a well-rounded participant in the business workforce. These foundational courses include global economics, ethics and leadership, introduction to business law, principles of financial accounting and principles of managerial accounting.

You'll also participate in hands-on learning outside of the classroom through internshipsjob shadowing and volunteer opportunities

"It became apparent early on that the education I received from the Offutt School of Business and, more specifically, professor Ron Twedt was top-notch. There was not a topic discussed that I did not understand."

Facing the Future

Upon graduation, your degree will qualify you for a variety of professional positions and your hands-on experience will help you get ahead of the competition. If you’re interested in getting your CPA licensure, our public accountancy concentration will help you meet the education requirements.

In addition to the basics of accounting, students will develop skills like problem-solving, analytical thinking and understanding of various software applications. They’ll also practice skills in other key areas, including communication, strategic planning and innovation.

These skills, coupled with an understanding of accounting principles and practices, are designed to set our students up for success. In the dynamic world of business, we aim to prepare our business students for their strategic career goals.

One of the reasons I really enjoyed the accounting department was because I connected with each of the faculty on a personal level.
