Picture yourself as a consultant for a Fortune 500 company. Imagine working to affect policy in Washington, D.C., or running a nonprofit dedicated to reducing scarcity in developing nations. Do you see yourself in government, taking a seat at the United Nations, or working for an international organization?

Economics gives you the tools to understand complex systems, evaluate evidence, and make informed decisions. You will be equipped to analyze events and learn to predict future events based on historical trends. Through our economics program, you will study decision-making, both on an individual and global scale. When broadly applied, economics can impact everyday life and how we organize, plan, and manage our lives.

Our economics program will provide you with the skills for understanding how individuals, institutions, and governments make decisions under constraints and how those decisions shape markets, public policy, and social outcomes. Economics is foundational to a number of career paths. Let the Offutt School of Business help you decide which one to take.

Major in Economics

Our new major launches this fall! As an economics major at Concordia, you will take courses in econometrics, intermediate theory, and interdisciplinary electives to develop your ability to interpret real-world problems, use data responsibly, and evaluate the potential consequences of economic and policy decisions. Note: Due to an overlap in courses, students cannot double major in economics and business with an economics concentration.

Minor in Economics

Starting this fall, students will be able to add an economics minor to complement a major in another discipline, such as mathematics, political science, data science, global studies, or related social sciences. A minor in economics provides a structured and accessible pathway to develop economic reasoning, quantitative literacy, and evidence-based analytical skills. Note: Due to an overlap in courses, students cannot minor in economics and major in business with an economics concentration.

Major in Business with an Economics Concentration

The business major offers seven concentrations. The business major with an economics concentration includes coursework in micro and macroeconomic theory, global development issues, and business analysis and strategic management.
