Exercise Science Program Receives Accreditation

Recognition indicates top-level quality

The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) has awarded accreditation to Concordia’s exercise science program. The accreditation includes the strength and conditioning add-on.

“I’m incredibly proud that we have advanced our program to the level we are exceeding standards and expectations of exercise science programs,” said Dr. Emily Huber-Johnson, assistant professor and program director for exercise science.

CAAHEP is the largest programmatic accreditor of health sciences professions and is the agency adopted by exercise science-related professional organizations and employers. It sets the standards for quality assurance.

The accreditation process is lengthy and intense. It involves curriculum evaluation, revisions, comprehensive self-study, a rigorous standards review, and a site visit.

The efforts have ongoing benefits for students and the community.

“This means we have achieved a top level of quality and rigor within the curriculum,” Huber-Johnson said. “We are building a reputation of excellence with future employers as well as graduate and professional schools. We are providing our students with experiences in which they are prepared to go out and be leaders in the field.”

Exercise science will soon be housed in the new Heimarck Center, which will have expanded labs and state-of-the-art equipment.
