The sunny skies of summer bring freedom for many high-school age kids, and this year, some students are spending a portion of that precious free time singing at Concordia Choir Camp June 21-27.
“When students participate in music at Concordia, they are building stronger relationships with a large community of students that share their love and passion for musical participation,” said Dr. Michael Culloton, artistic director and conductor of the camp for high school age singers.
During the week, the high school students will sleep in a Concordia dorm, but spend much of their time rehearsing, learning more about music, and making friends with other singers from across the region. They’ll also get to perform a wide variety of music, such as folk songs, gospel music, spirituals, and classical music.
Performances will include a concert at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 8th Street, Moorhead. The concert is free and open to the public.
The event is a longstanding tradition in the region. Founded in 1969 by Mark Aamot as the Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir, the camp has allowed students to perform in approximately 150 venues throughout the state.
