Concordia students lead and learn at Civic Action Academy

Concordia College students joined peers from across the region to strengthen their skills in leadership, civic engagement, and community dialogue through the Civic Action Academy at Wartburg College.

The opportunity was made possible through Concordia’s involvement with the Seed Coalition and support from the West Central Initiative, which funded participation for 10 Concordia students.

Students attending the academy included Alaina Voss, Arthur Fahnbulleh, Jocelyn Brown, Karen Miranda, Krishma Tamang, Leon Fredes Rodriguez, Parker Webster, Rachel Huynh, Susin Zeki, and Timothy James Castle.

In addition to participating in workshops and discussions, three Concordia students took on leadership roles during the academy. Miranda led a presentation independently, while Fahnbulleh and Zeki co-facilitated a session focused on leadership and civic engagement. Their presentation drew strong engagement from participants throughout the event.

“They did a fabulous job, and their participants were very engaged,” said Dr. Lisa Twomey, director of community engagement and integrative learning and associate professor of Spanish. “I’m glad we were at the table.”
