Miquette Denie ’06 Safe and Assisting With Relief
Miquette Denie ‘06, a native of Haiti who lives and works in Port-au-Prince, contacted her American family Thursday evening to say she is safe and assisting with the relief effort.
She works as a nurse at a Christian school in Haiti. She also founded
TeacHaiti, an organization that gives students scholarships to attend school. In its first year, the nonprofit gave scholarships to 41 children.
Miquette grew up like millions of other children in Haiti who have little access to clothing, food or health care.
She was invited to the United States as an exchange student and hosted by the adoptive family of her biological sister and niece. She graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran School in Fargo before attending Concordia where she studied nursing. She returned to her homeland to reach out to children who struggle with poverty and are desperate for a way out.
