What is Club Belonging?

Club Belonging is an opt-in Orientation club designed to allow students of color to join a club during Orientation where they feel they belong. This will allow students to form long lasting bonds with their peers during Orientation and to be a part of a group where they feel included and supported. Being a part of Club Belonging will allow students to go through all of the aspects of Orientation with their chosen rather than the initial group they would have been assigned to with the greater Concordia population. This option is only for students of color in order to allow a community of safe space to be formed.

Why do we have Club Belonging?

The purpose of Club Belonging is to allow students of color to be in an environment throughout Orientation where they can relate to students with shared identities, experiences, and similar backgrounds. Being in an Orientation club is very important and allows students to meet one another and learn all about being a Cobber. Yet, many students of color over the years have expressed concerns of not feeling connection and belonging with their peers and club leaders. To combat this, Club Belonging was formed with the goal of building community with other people of color, to minimize feelings of isolation and culture shock, and for students of color to immerse themselves in an environment with people that are similar to them in order to build connection.
